The Ministerial Department provides care and support to the 41 pastors and lay pastors who presently serve in the Indiana Conference. Throughout the year we offer various avenues where pastors can grow professionally, spiritually, and relationally. These include professional development classes where pastors can learn from experts in their various fields, worker’s meetings where pastors have the opportunity to meet and interact with one another, and an annual family retreat where pastors can get away and enjoy time with their families at Timber Ridge Camp. Our department also provides support to the local church by offering annual elder, deacon, and deaconess training in various parts of the state.
At any given time the Conference has several pastors who are new in ministry. Most are recent graduates and are learning the various facets of serving in the local church. Knowing the challenges of ministry today, the Ministerial Department is committed to helping each intern realize his calling to the gospel and experience fruit from his labors. To assist with the new pastor’s growth, we have implemented an ordination path that includes training, mentoring, feedback and accountability over several years. This path lays out a clearer and more consistent process for pastoral growth and it includes feedback from local leadership.
We are very grateful to God for the dedication and sacrifice that our pastoral team shows each day. The vineyard is growing in Indiana because of the efforts of both pastors and members working together to advance God’s kingdom. Let us pray for our pastors and their families regularly so that they can faithfully serve and lead many others to Jesus in these final days. As Paul writes, “we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you…and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake” (1 Thess 5:12-13).
